WEARABLE ART GALA/ BY TINA KNOWLES LAWSON & RICHARD LAWSON

1st INAUGURAL WEARABLE ART GALA for the W.A.C.O (Where Art Can Occur) Theatre (2017).

Tina Knowles Lawson alongside her husband Richard Lawson founded three programs called Tina's Angels, Richard's Warrior's and The Mobile Theatre. Tina’s Angels and Richard's Warrior's are mentorship programs for teenage girls from the ages of 12-15 and teenage boys from the ages of 14-17 who have potential and a desire to chase certain creative careers but don't have the financial ability or access to the road map to get there. With these two programs, the children are assigned mentors hand picked by Mr & Mrs Lawson for guidance.

The vision for the Mobile Theatre: "We, at WACO Theater Center, believe that theater is a powerful and important part of Los Angeles’ culture and community and should be accessible to all. WACOTC will bring the old traditional “Outdoor Theater” concept back to LA. We will be producing 2 productions a year (May to September) and taking them to 10 different communities."

The Lawson's had an event on Saturday night (29th April, 2016) "The Wearable Art Gala" which was used to raise awareness and funds for the three programs they have: Tina's Angels, Richard's Warriors and The Mobile Theatre. It featured honorary chairpersons: Solange Knowles, Beyoncé Knowles- Carter, Bianca Lawson and Kelly Rowland.

Tina Knowles Lawson partnered with my school, The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising to create wearable art ensembles and food stations/ booths according to matching themes. "Tina Knowles Lawson will be collaborating with the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM Los Angeles) to foster the creativity of its students. Fashion and design majors from across disciplines will have the opportunity to participate in the event's production and showcase their talent at the Gala."

As a result of this, I got to work as a designer and artist. I created a food station/ booth with amazing team members and then, I was assigned to create the matching wearable art costume/ ensemble for the model at the food station. This was such an amazing experience. I got to work with amazing FIDM students as well as alumni, and got to meet great people at the event. The Gala featured famous hollywood guests such as Michelle Williams, Jay Z, Magic Johnson and his family, Angela Bassett, Octavia Spencer, Tasha Smith, Serayah, Emeli Sandé, Kris Jenner, Yara Shahidi, Chloe and Halle, Russell Simmons, Meagan Good & Devon Franklin, Letoya Luckett, Draya Michelle, Kym Whitley and the list goes on.

So grateful for this opportunity! See pictures belowwwww :)
